Last year, Jojo Rabbit star Archie Yates led the cast of Home Sweet Home Alone, a spin-off film for Disney+. He played Max Mercer, a boy who gets left behind when his family head off on holiday to Japan, and eventually ends up embroiled in all sorts of dramas when a married couple mistakenly think he has stolen a valuable doll from their home. The hotel staff, who decide to chase a kid out of their hotel and into the streets of New York, alone, instead of asking him where he got the credit card and just keeping him until a relative could come and get him. Kate and Peter are understandably upset when they find out, and the former actually slaps the concierge for being an idiot. In the first movie, while Kevin was left home alone, his family at least knew exactly where he was.
Numerous video games based on Home Alone 2 were released by THQ for such systems as the Sega Genesis, the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Game Boy and personal computers, mostly in late 1992. Numerous board games were also released, some based around play cards, while another was a close emulation of the classic Mouse Trap. While the film featured the first film's theme song "Somewhere in My Memory", it also contained its own theme entitled "Christmas Star". Two soundtrack albums of the film were released on November 20, 1992, with one featuring Williams' score and the other featuring contemporary Christmas songs featured in the film. Ten years later, a 2-disc Deluxe Edition of the film score soundtrack was released.

On Christmas Eve, Kevin visits a toy store whose kindly owner, Mr. Duncan, plans to donate the day's sale proceeds to a children's hospital. After Kevin makes a donation, Mr. Duncan gives him a pair of ceramic turtledoves in thanks, instructing him to give one to another person as a gesture of eternal friendship. The concierge at the Plaza confronts Kevin about his use of Peter's credit card, now reported as stolen; Kevin flees the hotel but is caught by the Wet Bandits. Marv mentions his and Harry's plan to rob the store before Kevin escapes in an encounter with a passerby.
In February 1991, the Los Angeles Times reported that John Hughes was to sign a six-picture deal with 20th Century Fox; among the projects was a sequel to Home Alone. In May 1991, Culkin was paid $4.5 million plus 5 percent of the film's gross to appear in the sequel, compared to $110,000 for the original. For the television version, about twenty minutes of this movie was edited in very small sections, because this movie is exactly two hours long. In order to watch the full version on television, the time slot is extended to two and a half hours.
Sequels
The same two robbers that failed to rob his house last time, coincidentally arrive in New York to rob another place! The film centers on Kevin , the resident smart mouth of the massive McAllister family, who's accidentally left behind during their Christmas trip to Paris. It's not until they're up in the air that his stretched-thin parents finally realize their child isn't on the flight with them, and by then it's too late to re-book a return flight.
Kevin is with them, but he becomes separated from them while carrying Peter's bag and accidentally boards a flight to New York City. Upon arrival, he decides to tour the city, but becomes frightened by a homeless woman tending to pigeons in Central Park. He uses Peter's credit card to check in at the Plaza Hotel, not knowing that the Wet Bandits have also reached the city after escaping from prison. The same boy who was accidentally left Home Alone a year ago, accidentally takes the wrong flight. Instead of arriving in Miami with the rest of his family, he arrives in New York!

After they are subdued, Kevin seemingly walks from West 95th Street down to the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center, a distance of almost 3 miles. The bandits chase Kevin from Duncan's to his uncle's house on West 95th street on the Upper West Side. The distance between F.A.O. Schwartz and his uncle's address is about 2.5 miles in real life. One year after Kevin McCallister was left home alone and had to defeat a pair of bumbling burglars, he accidentally finds himself stranded in New York City - and the same criminals are not far behind. The exterior scenes for the McCallister house in the original Home Alone were filmed on location at 671 Lincoln Avenue in the North Shore village of Winnetka, Illinois. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without watching a young Macaulay Culkin booby-trap his house to take care of two hapless burglars.
Early on, he notes that Uncle Rob lives in New York and decides to drop in, but the house is empty because it’s undergoing renovation. The bird lady sics them on Harry and Marv before the police show up to arrest them. It’s given to Kevin at the start of the film as a gift from his grandmother, then he uses it in the hotel to fool the concierge that there’s someone in the shower. Near the end, Kevin slips on ice, allowing the bandits to catch him, and Harry says "how do you like the ice, kid?" This was probably a reference to Kevin's icy staircase trap in the first film. The gangster movie Kevin watches mentions Cliff as one of the men Johnny's girlfriend hangs out with. When Kevin uses the movie to scare the Plaza hotel staff, one of the security guards happens to be named Cliff.
Principal photography took place from December 9, 1991 to May 1, 1992, over a course of 144 days; the film was shot in Winnetka, Illinois; O'Hare International Airport in Chicago; Evanston, Illinois; and New York City. According to the director, Chris Columbus, Donald Trump, the owner of the Plaza Hotel at the time, allowed the crew to shoot scenes in the hotel lobby in exchange for a cameo in the film in addition to the standard fee for film productions. In 2021, Culkin endorsed a petition to edit out Trump's cameo, when he replied to a tweet asking to digitally replace Trump with an older rendition of Culkin. The next morning, the family oversleeps and must rush to the airport.

Kevin rigs the townhouse with booby traps, catches Harry and Marv in the process of robbing the store, and breaks its front window to set off the burglar alarm. After taking their picture, he lures them to the townhouse where they repeatedly injure themselves in the traps. Kevin evades them, calls the police from a pay phone to alert them to the pair's presence, and flees toward Central Park.
With the house all to himself, Kevin embraces his newfound freedom - until a pair of burglars set their sights on breaking into the McAllisters’ family home. The original movie sees Kevin McAllister’s parents inadvertently leave their youngest son behind when they head off to Paris for Christmas with the rest of their family. You won’t be alone this holiday season with the company of Kevin McCallister and the Wet Bandits. Kevin's family are stuck in a motel room watching a Spanish dub of It's a Wonderful Life, just like in the first film when they were stuck watching the French dub of the same movie. Initially, and at the very end of the film, the Pigeon Lady is shown roaming around the southern end of Central Park , which is close to the Plaza Hotel and Carnegie Hall , where she is shown to live. However, at the climax of the film, when Kevin flees from from his uncle's house on West 95th Street, he runs inside the park and ends up at the Inscope Arch , and the Pigeon Lady happens to be there to save him from Harry and Marv.

You can't expect Kevin to keep forgiving his family that quickly if they're still acting like assholes, especially Buzz and Uncle Frank. This time, Harry has a gun and tries to use it on Kevin when they have him cornered in Central Park. He sets them off in Central Park at the end to alert to police as to where Harry and Marv are. "Angels With Even Filthier Souls." Kevin watches it before the concierge shows up at his room, then he uses it to scare off the hotel staff before he flees. The scene where Kevin records his Uncle Frank taking a shower was meant to be a call back to this creepy as fuck deleted scene from the first film.
Additionally, it achieved the highest opening weekend for a Chris Columbus film and would hold that record until it was surpassed by Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. It started off better than Home Alone, grossing $100 million in 24 days compared to 33 days for the original. However the final box office gross was lower with $173.6 million in the United States and Canada and a worldwide total of $359 million, compared to $476 million for the first film. The film was released in the United Kingdom on December 11, 1992, and topped the country's box office that weekend. The film is the third-highest-grossing film released in 1992 behind The Bodyguard and Aladdin.
